Legal Aid And Fees

GMC Criminal Lawyers’ fees can either be met by a grant of legal aid or, where legal aid is not available, on a private fee paying basis. Contact our office in Kilmarnock and we will make sure that we do our best for your case.

Legal Aid

GMC Criminal Lawyers believes that everyone who faces criminal charges should have proper access to a lawyer. With this in mind we are proud to provide this access to as many of our clients as possible through our commitment to always provide legal aid where available.

We are registered with the Scottish Legal Aid Board to provide Criminal Legal Assistance to anyone facing a criminal charge. Many people are eligible for legal aid, including those in employment. We do point out, however, that some minor criminal and most Road Traffic Act charges are not covered by the legal aid scheme irrespective of income levels.

If you are eligible for legal aid you can be assured that we will conduct your case on that basis.

Private Fees

Even if you do not qualify for legal aid your first 30 minute consultation will be free of charge.

Where clients are not eligible for legal aid, either through income levels or case type, your case will be dealt with on a private fee basis. Our fee structure is flexible and we offer fixed fees for pleas of guilty. If a matter is to proceed to trial an accurate estimate of costs will be given prior to your trial. We also offer a facility where fees can be paid on an instalment basis.
